Should Women Getting Higher Education?

Recent year, most of Indonesian women could get high education as well as men. This condition is totally different with women who lived in the past. A long time ago, women just allowed to get lower education. Indeed, most of them did not go to school to study the new knowledge. They only learned to clean the house, cooked the meal, looked for the children, sewed the clothes  and many things that they can do at home. They did not have a chance to choose what they want to do for their future life. However, there are some women who got proper education, they are the daughters of the leaders at the regency. One of the leader’s daughter who had a chance to go to school is R.A. Kartini. She was the developer of women emancipation in Indonesia. There are many people who support this idea with their own arguments, although other arguments said that it is not appropriate enough in our country.

Opponents of higher education for women said that it is not important for women to go to school. They should focus on learning how to clean the house, cooking the meals, washing the clothes, and other jobs at home. They argue that there is no benefit for women to learn other field, such as: math, science, chemical, etc. They said that whatever background study of the women, they have to be a wife and a mother for their own family, so women should not getting higher education because it is possible for them to forget their main job at home. In other side, people who support the idea that women should get higher education argue that there are many advantages for women who study at school. The advantages are not only for women themselves, but also for their parents, husband, children, and other society. Educated women will not lost their main job at a wife and a mother because they realize that they want to prior their main job first before they go to work for helping their family’s finance. Educated women have more chance to create better life for their environment than other one.

The people who disagree to women emancipation argue that the only appropriate place for women is in the house. They said that women have more job at home, so they just wasting their time to spent their whole day while working in other place or studying other subject. They afraid that educated women will be busy to look for money than look after their house. It is different with other opinion which really support women emancipation. They believe that Women have the same right with the men to decide whether they want to go out of the house. Both of women and men should be able to do the right thing without any ego. They should discuss every single problem they have wisely. Educated women who must go to work could look for house helper to clean their house during they are in out of the house. It could make their house job easier. Furthermore, the helper as a house worker should get money from their job. Beside that, educated women will keep their house clean when they are back home.

The opponents of higher education for women said that educated women will not respect to their husband. The main reason is they could get more income than their husband, so it is possible for them to underestimate their husband. In other side, educated women should realize that their husband responsibility for them and their children are hard enough. They go to work for helping their family’s finance as their respectation for their own husband. Educated women could help their husband as their teamwork for solving the problems of life. Educated women should be able to differentiate their role as a wife, a mother and a worker. 

The opposition argument of higher education for women said that educated women will choose their work or their study as their priority. They argue that educated women certainly will not spent their time during the whole day at home to keep their house clean. Indeed, they said that educated women have no time to look after their husband and children. It is totally different with other opinion that educated women could manage their time for doing their job, such as work for getting money and looking after their family as well as they can. They will think twice whether they should go to work or not. They will ask their husband opinion about their ideas and share  their problem. In fact, there are many educated women who do not go to work during their pregnancy or their role as new mother. Educated women should realize that a child have to get more attention during their childhood. They could keep their house clean while their baby sleep. They will go to work if only they get their husband permission.

The opponents of higher education for women said that educated women have never meet other women in their environment to share everything. They argue that it is very important for women for knowing everything news in their own environment. However, other argument said that it is the negative effect of women who do not get higher education. They might talk other people during their spare time. Educated women could distinguish the usage thing that they have to do or not. They do not want hurting other creature by talking other people. They would prefer to do the right thing when they have leisure time. They are busy enough with their job than wasting their time by talking the issue of the news.

The writer of this essay certainly has her own oppinion about the topic of discussion. It is “Should Women Getting Higher Education.” The writer agrees if Indonesian women have more knowledge by going to school to learn everything that they could study as their passion, besides their main role as a wife of their own husband and a mother of their own children. There are some reasons why the writer considers to support higher education for women. First, there are many benefits that the women could take when they get higher education. Second, it is really important for women to get higher education because they have a chance to make their future life better than the other one. Third, educated women certainly could looked after their family better than one. For example, they could educate their own children before send them to school. For the next, educated women commonly could look for a job for helping their own husband’s finance.  

In other words, women in recent year is totally different with women who lived in the past. Now, women could choose their own decision for getting higher education or not. However, women who get higher education have more chance to make their future life better than the other one. They might have a job if they ask their own husband permit to go to work. They could educate their own children before send them to school. It is very important for children for getting early education from their own mother because mother is the first person who know their own children well. Finally, educated women could decide what they should do or not in their own life.
