The Effect Children of Growing Up in Poverty

In Indonesia, poverty is one of the biggest problems that Indonesia faces. Based on Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) data, the number of poverty per September 2015 increased than last year. It increased 0.17% of total Indonesian society. Therefore, there are many Indonesian children that live in poor family. Moreover, poverty must effect their growth. The poor children usually have limitedness in getting nutrient, education, and having playing time.

First of all, children of growing up in poverty usually don't get enough nutrients for their body. Their parents aren't able to give them healthy food. Usually, their incomes are not enough to buy it. So that, they just give what they can buy for their children. They don’t consider whether it is health or not. In bigger problem, they can get famine and less-nutrient.

Beside it causes children getting less-nutrient, poverty also gives effect the children right in getting education. Children that come from the poor family usually have lower education. Mostly, they just study until the elementary level. Moreover, there are many children cut their study before they graduate. Again, financial reason is their obstacle continuing their study. Therefore, the poverty can block their children getting high education.

Another effect of children of growing up is losing their playing time. They usually spent their time for working, such as cadging, polishing shoes, singing in bus or on the road, helping their parents in the rice field and others. Therefore, they have no time for playing and socializing with others that are their right as children. Furthermore, there are many cases about children exploitation. Those cases begin about working under-age children until renting their children to the cadger. Again, again, and again, its reason is financial limitedness (poverty).

As the conclusion, we can state that poverty can give some effects of children development.  It can take the children rights in getting enough nutrient food, education and playing time. Therefore children of growing up in poverty must be given more attention especially from government to get their children rights.
