We live in modern era and computer is part of this era. Computer makes everything easier. A computer needs operating system and it is one of the most important computer programs. Computers cannot run without operating system. There are two popular operating system, they are Windows and Linux. They are two operating systems which are constantly competing from control of the computer market. They have many users that support their activities.

One obvious difference is the cost. Linux is free for home uses while Windows is not free. You must buy license to use Windows. The cost is about $120 for home uses. It is more expensive than Linux. Linux is licensed by GNU (General Public License) that allows for free distribution of the Linux. Anyone can modify the code of Linux to set their specific needs as long as the code is never sold. Linux is very cheap only $319 for server uses while Windows is $810.

Security is one of the differences. Linux has better security than Windows. Linux has a good security feature which is free from viruses and it is difficult to be hacked. The Linux model or security uses UNIX, which was the first multitasking and platform portable computer operating system. In the other hand, Windows has many viruses and is easily hacked. There are many flaws in the Windows that make it more vulnerable to security attacks. Many people believe that Windows is the primary target of security problems and viruses because it has the largest market.

Windows has excellent user friendliness. No other operating system comes closer than Windows. It is practical, so you do not need to hire a computer professional to manage your computer. Linux is little difficult.  User needs to buy a manual book to learn Linux. Linux is very user friendliness if users are used to use it. It needs a person that has above average computer skills to understand Linux in the first using.

Both of them are operating system. Operating is needed to run the computer. The aim of operating system is to organize and control hardware and software. Both Linux and Windows are multi operating systems. It allows multiple application programs to be installed. Linux is good for person that has high computer skills. Windows is good for everyone but it has excellent user friendliness but there is a license that must be bought.
